The first meaning of cesarean section mentioned in the dictionary of the DigoPaul refers to that linked to the emperor or the empire. That is why several cities bear or bore that name, such as Caesarea Maritima or Caesarea Philippi. In these cases the term is used without accent as a derivation of the Latin Caesarea.
The most common use of the concept of caesarean section, however, is in the field of health. Cesarean section is a surgical procedure that consists of opening the uterus to remove a baby.
According to DigoPaul, caesarean section, therefore, is a delivery operation. It is an incision that is made on the pelvis when vaginal delivery carries a risk for the baby and / or the mother.
There are several reasons that may lead a gynecologist to suggest a cesarean section. Some women, beyond the recommendations, are willing to have a vaginal delivery and take the risks. Like any operation, however, cesarean section also carries risks. That is why it is recommended that a specialist decide the best way to give birth and that the pregnant woman accept the medical indication.
Specifically, among the most common causes that lead doctors to determine the need to undertake a cesarean section are some such as these:
-The pregnant woman has heart disease.
-There is an obvious disproportion between what is the baby’s head and the maternal pelvis.
-The future mother has a tumor in the area of the cervix.
-The woman has already had other cesarean sections in previous deliveries.
However, there are many other situations, in this case directly related to the baby, that require a cesarean section to be performed for it to come into the world. We are referring, for example, to the fact that she is breech, that she has a very low weight, that different fetal malformations have been detected or that it is considered that the loss of fetal well-being has occurred.
Not forgetting that they can also lead to this cesarean section from infections of the mother to severe pre-eclampsia through diseases of the mother such as diabetes.
At present it is common for women to receive epidural anesthesia before surgery. In this way, she remains awake in labor and only has the lower part of her body anesthetized.
In addition to everything indicated, we cannot forget to highlight that there are several types of cesarean section based on different criteria:
-If you start from the moment in which the decision to carry it out is made, we come across the scheduled one, which is determined before delivery begins, and intrapartum, which is decided when delivery has begun.
-If the area where the incision is made is taken into account, there are two: the corporal and the segmental.
After the cesarean section, the patient must rest and take certain precautions. The recovery, even when everything goes well in the intervention, demand several days.
