This word is used especially in medicine. In this context, a bypass to all types of surgical procedures that create an alternative diversion or conduit that functions as a bridge between two parties, in order to solve a certain health problem.

A gastric bypass also receives the names of Roux Y gastric bypass or gastric bypass surgery. It is the most used bariatric surgical technique for the treatment of obesity, and it is used only when no diet can take effect.

The gastric bypass is based on the reduction of food absorption in the small intestine, where nutrients are absorbed.

This procedure is based on reducing the size of the stomach by creating a small bag. This bag is connected directly to the second section of the small intestine and the first section is removed. This allows food to be absorbed and pass directly to the section that processes nutrients.

A coronary bypass is performed when there is an obstruction or narrowing in one of the coronary arteries, which reduces blood flow.

This type of bypass consists of grafting a prosthesis or a segment of a blood vessel in the coronary artery, in order to evade and replace the obstructed area and redirect blood flow.

In this way, the coronary bypass allows to restore circulation and prevent complications such as myocardial infarction.
